A loaded shotgun was discovered by children in a shed behind some Abbey Wood flats yesterday (April 13).
The youngsters found the alleged firearm in Commonwealth Way at around 5pm.
A man, who lives in the flats but did not want to be named, told News Shopper: "Two little girls, they found it in the shed and they showed my boy it.
"He's only eight and he called up to me.
"I told them to put it on the ground and stand away from it and I'll be down.
"I went down and saw what it was - a shotgun - and it still had a live round in it."
A police spokesman said: "Police in were called to Commonwealth Way, Abbey Wood, at 5pm on Monday, April 13, to reports of a firearm found.
"Officers attended and found a sawn off shotgun and ammunition.
"The firearm is currently undergoing testing to determine if it is a live firearm.
