One of the first community bus services in the area has launched, with the help of Chelsea's stars of the future.

England youth internationals Jacob Maddox and Martell Taylor-Crossdale, and Swiss youth international Miro Muheim unveiled the Chatterbus, which will run daily between Cobham and Weybridge.

Lady Acher, whose research and hard work initially got the project off the ground, cut the ribbon to launch the bus on Friday.

Chatterbus committee chairman Sir Gerald Acher said prior to the launch event last month: "We are delighted that all our plans are falling into place and that Chatterbus will be serving the community where it is needed most."

It will be the first service for commuters to stop right outside Cobham station and the first connection between Cobham, Weybridge and Brooklands. It will operate to primary schools, easing school run traffic, and will get people to the Weybridge jobcentre.

County council cabinet member for transport John Furey said: "It's fantastic that Chelsea have joined us in getting behind this great community transport link.

"Our approach is all about working with others, whether they're a famous football club, a business or a charity, for the benefit of residents and I'm sure this type of service could work really well in other areas of the county too."

Most of the funding to run the bus was provided by Chelsea, Surrey County Council, Elmbridge Council, Anchor Trust, Cobham business Cargill and local churches and charities.

More details about the service, which started operating on April 7, can be found at chatterbus.org.uk.
