Merton’s Best Business Awards officially launched last week at an event at South Thames College.

Businesses in the borough can now enter for the awards which are run by Merton Chamber of Commerce.

The launch event at Taste Restaurant at the college’s Merton campus in London Road, Morden, was held on Thursday, March 12.

Guests enjoyed a range of canapés and drinks, prepared and served by South Thames’ Food and Beverage students, while the college’s jazz band entertained the attendees.

Diana Sterck, chief executive of Merton Chamber of Commerce, said: "The purpose of the awards is to celebrate the fabulous businesses we have in the borough.

"Merton really is a great borough for business and these awards bring the whole business community together.

"I’m passionate about supporting young people in jobs so it is wonderful that the launch event was held in South Thames College’s Taste restaurant - I love the restaurant and it is a great example of preparing young people for employment."

Last year's overall Business of the Year, sponsored by WSM, business advisory and accounting services, was the New Wimbledon Theatre.

Nominations in categories including Business of the Year, Best New Business and Best Apprentice of the Year can be made at www.mertonbestbusiness.co.uk.
