The children of Wimbledon Common Nature club have been out enjoying the sunshine looking for the first signs of spring.

Twenty children and their families enjoyed a sunny Sunday morning walk on Wimbledon Common last weekend.

They visited Queensmere pond where they used binoculars to see coots making their nests and buds appearing on trees.

The group enjoyed the fresh air and the woodland plants and spotted golden gorse flowers-smelling of coconut.

Club leader Auriel Glanville said: "Everyone had a good time on a beautiful spring morning on Wimbledon Common when the woodland was alive with birdsong.

"It was perfect for looking at what is happening at springtime. The children were very quick to spot the new growth, showing us their good observational skills."

The next meeting will be on Sunday, April 5 when the club will be pond dipping.

The walk will be between 10am-12pm and the club meet at the Wimbledon Common information centre.
