More than 60 people have so far penned their support for a remembrance woodland to commemorate lives lost in the First World War.
Dozens of volunteers have also come forward to help plant 240 trees in Wandle Park, Colliers Wood, to reflect the exact number of war dead from the area.
A disagreement has meant the saplings destined for the park have been stored by Colliers Wood resident Keith Spears, who has been out on the streets collecting signatures in support of the planting.
Mr Spears, the founder of Making Colliers Wood Happy, said: "We need trees in Colliers Wood, even more so than on the other side of the borough.
"It’s about remembrance, it’s about air quality and it’s about improving the appearance of the park."
A Merton Council consultation on the planting is due to end on Saturday, March 7.
Next week, the team is planning to submit the petition to Councillor Andrew Judge.
