Rebecca Weston had been looking forward to a family Christmas with her sister and mum but can no longer leave the house after her second-hand scooter was stolen by heartless thieves.

She is appealing for it to be returned after it went missing some time between 10pm on Monday and Tuesday morning from outside her home in Huntingdon Close, Pollards Hill.

The devastated 36 year-old said she is in too much pain from Arthritis in her hips to walk very far and takes strong painkillers regularly, leaving her stuck inside.

A 10 minute walk to the doctor’s surgery this week took her an hour without the motorised scooter, she said.

Ms Weston has cerebral palsy and relied on the second-hand scooter, which she bought for £500 in March, for her independence.

She is paying for the vehicle in instalments and is now paying for something she does not have. She said: "They have totally ruined my Christmas.

"I was going to have a few drinks and go out to see family but I don’t want to do anything now.

"I can’t do anything; I’m stuck in my house."

There was an overwhelming response to Ms Weston’s plight in September when she was refused access to the Job Centre’s toilet in Mitcham.

She bravely contacted the Wimbledon Guardian to highlight the issue and her story was read by 50,000 people on our websites and attracted more than 50 comments, mostly in support of her.

MP Siobhain McDonagh even planned to raise her case in front of Prime Minister David Cameron.

Ms Weston is appealing for anyone who has seen the scooter to return it or contact police.

A police spokeswoman said: "We can confirm police were called on Tuesday, December 16 at approximately 7am following the report of a theft of a mobility scooter.

"The victim informed police that she had parked the scooter outside her home in Huntingdon Close, Mitcham on Monday, December 15 at about 9.30pm and when she checked the following morning the scooter was gone."

The spokeswoman added there have been no suspects identified and no arrests made.
