One shops at Sainsbury's and loves a baked potato, while the other is a Waitrose man and tucks into reindeer fillets, but what else distinguishes a Barnet FC fan from a Saracens fan?

YouGov, the firm best known for compiling opinion polls ahead of elections, has released a sample of the data it uses to profile people with certain interests.

According to data from the firm, the typical Barnet FC fan is a man aged 25 to 39, who lives in London, East Anglia or in the West Country.

He works in research, has between £500 and £999 to spare each month, shops at Sainsbury’s and leans strongly to the right of the political spectrum.

He drives a Mazda, and his favourite food is a baked potato, although he is also known to enjoy a tempura soba or saag aloo.

His other interests include Arsenal FC, Hampshire County Cricket Club and Spain, and the pet he is most likely to own is a goldfish. After football, his favourite sport is American football, followed by tennis.

Favourite films of the average Barnet fan include Monty Python and the Holy Grail, The Lord of the Rings and Forrest Gump, while his favourite television show is Only Fools and Horses, and his favourite band is The Sex Pistols.

His favourite newspaper is The Independent, and he spends roughly 25 hours per week online.

He tends to work in advertising, marketing or public relations, and has £1,000 monthly to spare, which he most likely spends on his favourite dish, a reindeer fillet.

On the right of the political spectrum, he shops at Waitrose, banks with Nationwide and spends roughly 40 hours online a week.
