A craze for racing subway trains and uploading the results on YouTube - kickstarted in London a couple of months ago - has gone global, according to a BBC report.
The practice has become known as #racethetube after a video made in London was watched more than 5 million times on YouTube. It involves getting off a train at one station and running to the next stop to catch the same train.
In the London video, James Heptonstall, an environmental consultant who lives in Hampstead, filmed his 380m sprint from Mansion House to Cannon Street station on a GoPro headcam while his friend Noel Carroll took the Circle Line Tube for the same journey.
Filmed around midday, he made it back on to the train with seconds to spare after hurdling two ticket barriers and climbing 75 steps, and was applauded by his fellow passengers.
The subsequent video has now surpassed the 5 million views mark and has prompted others around the world to attempt the stunt.
Tube racers in 20 cities have now taken part in the #racethetube challenge, the BBC said.
