Shoppers are urged to donate food and toiletries to charity as part of a harvest festival.

The Broadwalk shopping centre, in Station Road, Edgware, is supporting Homeless Action in Barnet and asking people to give canned food, packets, pasta, rice, tea and coffee to the cause.

Homeless Action in Barnet is a charity that helps vulnerable people gain access to housing and health to help them lead independent lives.

Joe Lee, chief executive of Homeless Action in Barnet, said: “We rely on the support of the community to enable us to carry on our work with some of the most vulnerable people in Barnet.

“Your gifts at harvest time help us to provide breakfast and a hot meal to about 60 people a day throughout the year as well as to provide food parcels to keep people going over difficult times such as while they are waiting for benefits.

“When you are living on the street getting a hot meal every day is really important. With your help we can provide it.”

A donation bank has been set up outside Costa Coffee in the shopping centre until Saturday, October 5.
