A protest will take place to highlight an ongoing pay dispute.

The protest, by members of Barnet Unison, will take place outside Hendon Town Hall on Monday at 6pm.

It aims to bring attention to the dispute over pay conditions between Unison and Your Choice Barnet (YCB), which supports people with physical and learning disabilities. Staff at Your Choice Barnet are facing pay cuts of 9.5 per cent.

The Performance and Contract Management Committee are holding a meeting later that evening in the town halll.

Helen Davies, Branch Chair of Barnet Unison, said: “We hope to bring awareness to councillors about the decision they made to set up Your Choice Barnet. The reason we are demonstrating is because that evening a contracting committee is being held and one of those contractors is Your Choice Barnet.

“The difficulty which has become clear is that we need a three way meeting with the council, the union and Your Choice Barnet. I don’t know if it will come about, but it’s hard to see how some of the issues can be resolved just by us talking to Your Choice Barnet.”

Sully J says...

Barnet councillors have deliberately avoided contact with parents and family carers of YCB clients. In the knowledge it is impossible to deal with all of the issues without their input, they created a white elephant that they claimed would make huge profits but instead has made huge losses. They have and continue to drive out the more skilled staff in order to replace them with cheap any Tom Dick or Harriet labour, displaying complete contempt for YCB clients and their quality of life. They have placed the long term quality of life of disabled people into a failing company namely YCB that can never even break even on the new terms, even with slashing the wages of vital staff now it cannot break even. They will have to slash their wages again in a few months in the vain and impossible hope of YCB breaking even, no matter the damage to service quality and quality of life that will result from demoralised staff and cheap unskilled labour.
Everything about Your Choice Barnet has been a lie from day one, not one councillor council officer or director of YCB is capable of telling the truth about the long term viability of YCB, simply because they know perfectly well it has no long term future and they never intended it to have a long term future. They have willingly knowingly and deliberately destroyed the quality of service provision, with obfuscation misinformation and downright lies. Care workers that have looked after my daughter Susan for fourth years in Barnet, good people decent people are treated no better than dog muck on the shoes of our councillors, council officers and YCB directors. They promised from the outset that in the event of the YCB business model failing services would be brought back in house, they started with his lie and continue to lie whilst the quality of the service provision and the quality of life of my disabled daughter and her peers is allowed to deteriorate, the reality being they don't care about disabled people they prefer to continue with the lie that is Your Choice Barnet

Yet again this waste of a skin hasn't read the post he can't wait to spew his usual bile over. Sully, J doesn't need 'another job', she 's got one looking after a disabled child, a task which Barnet Council made more difficult. One day Harvey uk might need a carer, as might I, perhaps he won't be so callously glib then, although as it seems to be all he's got in life he probably will.
