A shopping centre is encouraging people to donate food to a charity which helps homeless people.

The Broadwalk Centre, in Station Road, Edgware, is urging people to donate non-perishable food to Homless Action in Barnet as part of its harvest festival.

People can give canned foods, packets, pasta, rice, tea, coffee and cereals as well as toiletries, deodorants, shower gel and toothpaste from September 4 to October 5.

Donations can be left in the centre’s collection box outside Costa Coffee.

Joe Lee, chief executive of Homeless Action in Barnet, said: “Homeless Action in Barnet relies on the support of the local community to enable us to carry on our work with some of the most vulnerable people in Barnet.

“Your gifts at harvest time help us to provide breakfast and a hot meal to about 60 people a day throughout the year as well as to provide food parcels to keep people going over difficult time.

“When you are living on the street getting a hot meal every day is really important. With your help we can provide it.”
