Jon Hopkins’ new album Immunity has been nominated for the 2013 Mercury Music Prize.

The Wimbledon-born musician was surprised to learn that his new album, despite only having been released in June, has already been called a landmark moment in modern British electronic music.

He said: "I am a bit stunned to have been nominated this year. For an album of not exactly hummable electronic music to get such an accolade is amazing and a total surprise."

The Mercury Music Prize will take place on Wednesday, October 30 at the Roundhouse in London. Hopkins’ Immunity has been shortlisted alongside 11 other albums this year.

It is his fourth solo album and was released on June 4 by Domino Records.

The same-titled closer single Immunity features vocals from King Creosote, whose collaboration with Hopkins earned him a nomination for the Mercury Music Prize in 2011.

Hopkins has just finished a summer of festival appearances and tour dates with Pet Shop Boys and Purity Ring and will play further UK dates this autumn with a newly added date at the Oval Space in London on February 22.
