BROMLEY: People cut free after serious road accident
Emergency services inspect the wreckage
Emergency services inspect the wreckage

A driver and a passenger were cut free from their car by firefighters after colliding with a bus in Beckenham.

The accident happened in Upper Elmers End Road near the junction with Altyre Way at around 5.10pm on Thursday (May 1).

It is believed that the bus driver and a passenger on the 358 service were also injured.

A London Ambulance Service spokesman says two people were taken to Kings College Hospital, Denmark Hill.

One of the patients had sustained a head injury in the collision.

Two other cars are thought to have been involved in the accident but details of any injuries to occupants in these vehicles are not yet known.

The air ambulance was called but it is not yet known whether it transported any patients.

Nearby resident Gary Armstrong, 29, was in his garden when it happened.

He said: "I heard something which sounded like a crash.

"I was surprised when I saw the wreckage about how bad it was."

Part of Upper Elmers End Road was closed while emergency services crews worked at the scene.

The road has now been cleared and traffic is getting back to normal.
