BUCKS: NHS bosses' European immigration warning
European immigration in Buckinghamshire has been underestimated the county's hospital bosses have said.
A study has been ordered by NHS and council leaders concerned over official predictions of hospital growth.
In a presentation to councillors hospital managers state: "We believe inward European migration is underestimated."
The county's hospital trust and primary care trust uses 2001 census data produced by Buckinghamshire County Council to plan health services.
The presentation states: "The PCT and council have jointly commissioned a review of this data and the analysis will included impact of population change on health service demand e.g growth of chronic conditions, increase in obesity "We will also use this data to update projections as soon as it is available."
The projections predict a massive population growth in Aylesbury, 19.8 per cent, between 2001 and 2026.
But estimates are -0.6 per cent for Chiltern, 1 per cent for South Bucks district and -0.1 per cent for Wycombe.
Overall, this leaves south Bucks with 100 fewer residents.
