Uni course to help doctors
In an attempt to help tackle the workloads of doctors the University of Hertfordshire is offering a new degree to enable students to become physician assistants.
The uni says the first masters-level programme will contribute to solving the UK GP recruitment crisis and enhance hospital services.
It will be available at the University's Health and Human Sciences Research Institute this September.
Physician Assistant Studies principal lecturer Maureen Brennan said: "The masters-level course provides a way to support practitioners in an ongoing way."
The MSc/Postgraduate Diploma in Physician Assistant Studies - Medical Practice follows on from the University's Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Care Practice.
The Hertfordshire course, guided by the Department of Health's Curriculum Framework for the Physician Assistant, provides opportunities for life science and health graduates to play a role in supporting GP's in the management of their caseloads.
An open day for those interested is taking place at the university on 29 between 2.00 and 4.00pm in the Health and Human Sciences Research building.
