Bridget Prentice MP with Beverley Crisp

A charity was visited by an MP to discuss the shortage of Muslim foster carers in south London.

Lewisham East MP Bridget Prentice visited The Adolescent and Children's Trust (TACT), which provides fostering and adoption services, on April 4.

Foster care manager Beverley Crisp told Ms Prentice the charity tried to place children with families whose religious and cultural backgrounds were similar to their own.

But she said the shortage of Muslim foster carers meant more families with an Islamic background were needed.

Ms Prentice said: "These are the most vulnerable of Britain's children facing difficult challenges.

"Having a foster carer who understands a child's heritage can make the care experience just a little bit easier.

"I hope Muslim families in South London will consider whether they could care for a child in need, and if so contact TACT".
