An overweight teen from Epsom took part on a TV show to get cured from his “embarrassing” condition.
Ryan Jordan, 16, a former pupil of Blenheim School, went on the UKTV Style show Teen Spa for Embarrassing Illnesses with four other teenagers to try to lose weight.
He was guided by a team of global experts in holistic health, led by presenter Amanda Hamilton and spent a week on a spa in the hills of Andalucia, in Spain.
He said: “My nan saw the ad and advised me to do it. I could have done it on my own, but I just needed a kick up the bum. My mum was a bit worried that they were going to take the mick, but it was all good.”
Mr Jordan weighed 18st before the show and had always lacked the willpower to do anything about it.
He said: “About six months ago I got to that stage where my weight was a real problem. It was good to go on the show – a good experience.”
The production of the show described Mr Jordan as a comfort eater whose low confidence means he had given up on himself.
But in the strict regime of the spa, where they always had early mornings with yoga sessions and even spent two days having nothing but liquids, he lost half-a-stone and said he gained “confidence to keep losing weight.”
Teen Spa for Embarrassing Illnesses starts on UKTV Style this Monday, at 10pm.
