BRENT: PCT hopes to hit government targets

11:15am Tuesday 16th December 2008

A Brent health trust is on course to hit all its government targets next year, according to a report.

Brent Primary Care Trust (PCT) was ranked the lowest in London last year but managers claim it has now addressed a shopping list of problems flagged up in previous assesments.

A Brent Council committee will look at last year's damning verdict and hear claims the organisation's future looks brighter at a meeting due to be held tonight.

The PCT was faced with crippling debts after financial mismanagement took it from a £2.5m surplus to a £25m deficit in 2006-2007.

But the PCT claims an internal audit shows it is on course to meet national targets for its use of resources.

The trust also expects to make the grade in every other area assessed, by March 31, 2009, and is hoping it will be upgraded from a rating of “weak” to one of “fair”.
