A SHOPKEEPER was stunned when he received a letter from the Metropolitan Police's Special Branch last week.

Ean Levy, 54, owner of Bags of Time in High Street, Wealdstone, has been at the forefront of a campaign to get the road back in business with a controversial anti-Labour poster before the local elections on May 4.

High Street has been in decline since the imposition of strict parking restrictions, enforced by cameras, the loss of a free car park and pedestrianisation.

Ean, who has worked in Wealdstone for over 20 years, raised a few eyebrows with his homemade posters when he tacked them to his window and fellow shopkeepers did the same.

Ean said: "I did this because the traders and I are in serious trouble.

"The only way we could get back at the council was by making the posters"

Trouble arose when it was pointed out that he had not made it clear that the "Do not vote Labour" poster was created by him.

The letter from Special Branch stated that the A4 document had contravened the Representation of the People Act.

Ean, who insists he does not support any political party and is just desperate to save his dying business, said: "When I spoke to the detective constable from the Special b Branch I asked her if she didn't have anything better to do.

"I realised the error I had made and reprinted the posters with my name on them.

"Special Branch told me if I do it again to make sure I put my name and address at the bottom."

The Special Branch letter, along with newspaper articles written about him and letters he has received, has been put up in his shop window.
