BANBURY'S Jekyll and Hyde season continued against lowly Aylesbury and around 150 travelling fans came away frustrated after another poor performance.

With five ex-Ducks players in their squad, Banbury's commitment should have been high but the writing was on the wall after just three minutes when Aylesbury took the lead.

Aston Goss slipped the ball to Kieron Deane, and the young Aylesbury striker had all the time in the world to beat Banbury 'keeper Alan Foster.

Aylesbury went further ahead in the 30th minute when Ollie Stanbridge ran the ball out of play on the right. Goss latched on to a quick throw-in and set off goalwards before firing the ball into the corner of the net.

The best chance for Banbury in the first-half fell to the unmarked Wayne Blossom in the 41st minute but he headed a cross over the bar.

Manager Kevin Brock's desperation was underlined when he made a double substitution at half-time, bringing on Chris Jackson at left-back and introducing fit-again Murray Nicholls.

George Redknap and Stanbridge sat out the second half and Tommy Kinch moved forward into midfield.

United looked a better side for a while but without Andy Baird up front, it was always going to be difficult to get back into the game, despite plenty of chances.

The first of those came in the 54th minute when Banbury was awarded a free-kick on the right. Ady Fuller floated the ball to the far post but Paul Lamb put his header into the side netting.

In the 61st minute, Kinch laid the ball off to Neil Lazarus who sent a perfect cross over to the far post. Fuller was on hand to head goalward, but Ducks' keeper Kirk Reece did well to save.

The best chance came in the 67th minute following a foul on Wayne Blossom.

Fuller played the place kick towards the far post where Blossom was unlucky to see his header come back off the post, with Reece well beaten.

Banbury's day was underlined in the 89th minute when Matty Gooderick was left with a one-on-one with Reece, but his fluffed shot was easily gathered by the 'keeper.
