PROTESTORS are staging a demonstration in central London opposing the Government's proposals for anti-terror laws.

The Islamic group Hizb ut-Tahrir (HT) is organising the march from Parliament Square to Hyde Park on Saturday. People from Waltham Forest and across the UK are expected to attend.

The event has been endorsed by the Islamic Human Rights Commission, the Muslim Association of Great Britain and the Muslim Association of Britain.

Dr Imran Waheed, representing HT, said: "This demonstration will show that these anti-terror laws do not have the support of the Muslim community despite the claims of the Government.

"Almost every leading Muslim organisation and personality has stated their oppositon to these draconian measures."

The new anti-terror laws are currently before the House of Lords.

If they are approved terror suspects will lawfully be held for longer periods of time before they are charged.

Demonstrators are expected to gather in Parliament Square from noon.
