RESIDENTS claim their street has been under siege by members of a gang known as Racist Attack.

The target for the attacks has been a house in Woolwich Road, Bexleyheath, used to house young people who have left local authority care.

People living in the street claim there have been problems with residents of the terraced house over a period of years.

But problems have worsened in the past month and residents have been forced to call police to deal with the escalating violence.

They claim up to 40 people were fighting in the house on September 16 and two people were stabbed and one beaten with a baseball bat.

On September 29 two youths forced their way into the house and robbed someone at knifepoint.

The following night a gang of about a dozen people laid siege to the house, smashing the front window and the glass panel in the front door.

Hyde Housing, which owns the house, said the residents had been subjected to attacks on their home "by a notorious gang".

A spokesman said: "Following the attack on September 30, we acted quickly to rehouse the residents of the property and secure it to prevent further incidents.

"These violent attacks were a threat to the safety, not just of the residents of the house but residents in the rest of the road."

She said the association was now talking with Bexley Council about whether to continue using the house to house people leaving care.
