A FRIGHTENED mother has spoken of her concern for her teenage boys following a shooting in Southall.

One man was shot in the chest and another attacked with an iron bar, in Lancaster Road, at 7.16pm, on Tuesday, August 30.

The attack happened during a fight involving about 14 men.

The mother, who did not wish to be named, lives with her family in Lancaster Road.

She said: "I'm scared because I have two teenage boys. One is 16 and one 14. I have told them not to go out at night. Someone told me they saw a gun as long as my arm. I'm scared for my boys."

One Somalian man, aged in his late twenties, was shot, while a second Asian man, in his thirties, sustained a head injury. Police say they believe the gunman is Sri Lankan.

No arrests have yet been made and police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The incident follows another violent attack the previous day, on Monday August 29. Three men were attacked by a number of people armed with weapons, including axes, at their home in Livingstone Road, Southall. Petrol bombs were also thrown at the building.

On the same day at 8.50pm in the recreation park, Southall, a 28-year-old man suffered serious stab wounds and two other men suffered cuts following a fight involving around 20 to 40 people. Four people were arrested.

Police are not linking any of the incidents.

Det Supt Chris Foster, of Ealing Borough police, said there was no reason for innocent members of the public to feel more in danger.

He said: "Obviously we have concerns about any sort of fighting in the streets and the measure of that is our increases in resources and stepping up of patrols in Southall. As yet there is nothing to suggest that these incidents are linked but the investigations are ongoing."
