A MURDER investigation has been launched after a 42-year-old man was stabbed once in an attack in Gants Hill and later died in hospital.
Robert Darby, of Byng Street, Poplar, was in Perth Road when he was attacked shortly before midday.
A witness told police that two men drove up to Mr Darby and one of the men stabbed him before the pair drove away.
Police arrived at the scene at about midday on Wednesday, August 24, and found Mr Darby suffering from stab injuries.
He was taken by ambulance to the Royal London Hospital but he was pronounced dead at about 5pm the next day.
The results of the post mortem held on Friday have not yet been revealed.
Police say they are keeping an open mind as to the motive at this stage and are appealing for more witnesses.
A spokeswoman said: "We urge anyone who was in the area at the time to contact us. Their information, however small, could help us solve this crime and we ask them to contact the incident room as soon as possible."
Anyone with information should call 8345 1585 or to remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
