BEXLEY: Attracting wildlife to nursery’s garden
Gardeners of all ages get involved at the Redcliffe Nursery BE10927
Gardeners of all ages get involved at the Redcliffe Nursery BE10927

Youngsters at a Bexley nursery have been taking part in Operation Butterfly.

This is a project which will see part of their outdoor area transformed into a wildlife garden.

The Redcliffe Nursery, Erith Road, Belvedere, which is attached to Bexley College, got a £50 grant from environment campaign Action Earth, sponsored by Morrisons, to buy seeds, plants and shrubs to attract insects, butterflies and birds.

Chris Foster, 60, whose daughter works at the nursery, is the volunteer gardener for the project, helped by 25 three and four-year-olds and 11 staff.

The nursery is hoping a skip company will help them to get rid of all the debris from their work.

Mrs Foster's next project will be to create a vegetable garden, where the children can help plant and care for the veg, and then harvest and eat it.

If you can help get rid of the rubbish, call 01322 440240.
