SUTTON: 'Horrendous' sewage causes a stink
 |
| Stench: Raw sewage flooded Gander Green Road |
Gander Green Lane was flooded with "horrendous" raw sewage on Sunday - just two weeks after Thames Water carried out repairs to the road's drainage system.
Residents Heather and Brian Stoffell said they heard a loud banging noise on Sunday morning and when they noticed the water level rising in their toilet they went out in the street to find the mess pictured above.
"I have never seen it so bad. It was horrendous," said Mrs Stoffell - who rushed out to photograph what had happened.
"It used to happen every time it rained and when Thames Water did the work two weeks ago we said we wouldn't know if was successful until the next time it rained. Then this happened when it wasn't even raining," she said.
Residents said a van came to the clean the site on Monday but they were not sure who had sent it.
A spokesman for Thames Water said the manager for the Gander Green Lane project was not aware there had been a problem.
It's a horrible experience to go through, particularly if we have done work there recently, but the area manager contacted about it said he didn't expect this to be happening," he said.
"Now it has been reported we will look into it," he added.
