A wildlife loving residents' group is planning to change an estate's urban wasteland into a garden.

The Blenheim-Arpley Communication Group hopes to take control of a small plot of council-owned land in Burham Close, on the Blenheim-Arpley Estate in Penge.

Members are putting together a planning application to change the land from a litter-covered patch of grass to a wildlife haven, with a pond, plants and bird feeders.

Group member Jami Wearn, 33, who came up with the plan, said: "We've had meetings with all sorts of different people to put the idea forward and it's growing. One small seed grows into one big tree."

The group is hoping to attract funding, and somebody to draw a set of plans.

A Bromley Council spokesman said: "We are looking forward to receiving that planning application so we can take it a little further."
