Green campaigners target High Wycombe

Green campaigners will urge people in High Wycombe to take a stand against climate change this weekend.

Wycombe Friends of the Earth will ask people in the town centre this Saturday to sign a postcard to send to their Member of Parliament to vote for a tougher stance on the Climate Change Bill.

The environmentalists, who will also be giving out leaflets, want to see it incorporate all sources of carbon dioxide, including the UK's share of emissions from international aviation and shipping.

advertisementThe Wycombe branch is taking action as part of "The Big Ask" - a Friends of the Earth campaign.

Sam Clements co-ordinator for Wycombe Friends of the Earth said: "If there are people around and they would like to find out more we would be more than happy to talk to people about the importance of aviation issues.

"If people haven't joined in with The Big Ask Saturday would be a good day to do it."

The organisation wants the bill to include a reduction of 30 per cent for EU-wide domestic emissions by 2020 and 90 per cent by 2050.

The campaigners will be in White Hart Street between 11am and noon.
