HARINGEY: Muswell Hill school seeks late night licence

The decision to grant a Muswell Hill school a late night licence will be deliberated at a committee meeting on Thursday night.

Angry residents who live near Alexandra Park School, Bidwell Road, are hoping that Haringey Council's licensing officers will reject the application.

If agreed, the school will be able to stay open until 1am to host events like concerts, plays and dance performances.

But residents feel the late nights could cause havoc on the streets and exacerbate the problem of parking congestion.

More than 20 residents have written to the council expressing their concern.

One objector from Rhodes Avenue said: "The school has not demonstrated that it cares for the area or wants to be part of the community outside the school gates.

"From my experience I question whether the school is fit to hold a licence."

Besides the neighbouring community, no other parties have expressed any concern over the extension including the police and the noise team.

The licence will not permit the secondary school to serve alcohol.

The school's application states that it is "imperative that we provide this selection and opportunity for our students and our community" as outlined in the government's Extended Schools policy.
