Glenthorne High School holds day of sport

A Sutton secondary school held a day of sport on July 6.
Glenthorne High School played host to the “Glenthorne Games” which was the climax of the school sporting calendar.
The aim was to bring pupils together under the banner of sport - celebrating healthy competition, culture and community.
The emphasis of the games was on creating a positive and rewarding experience for all, providing pupils with the opportunity to try new activities and work together as part of a team.
Pupils in year 7 to year 10 were divided into houses named after famous Olympians for example Sir Steve Redgrave, Dame Kelly Holmes, Sir Chris Hoy and Rebecca Adlington.
Activities included archery, boxercise, Brazilian Ju-Jitsu and street dance which took place under the guidance of professional instructors.
Other sports were held at a variety of venues such as Sutton Tennis Academy, Cheam Cricket Club and Chessington Equestrian Centre.
Some Year 12 students organised and ran fairground stalls which raised £200 to go towards the school’s charities and next year’s Year 13 Prom.
