Two school pupils beat more than 26,000 children to the finals of a foreign languages competition today.
Halah Afgan and Melanie Ananthakumar, from Carshalton High School for Girls, will take part in the final of the Foreign Language Spelling Bee at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge.
The event is a memory test and language competition rolled into one.
The pupils have one minute to translate and spell aloud as many words as they can, from a memorised list in French, German or Spanish.
The two pupils will take on fellow Year 7 pupils from across the country.
