St Andrews pupils celebrate success
A school producing the latest batch of IT teachers has been recognised for its work in the community.
St Andrew’s High School has been named BT Internet Ranger School of the Year for teaching elderly residents IT Skills.
Over the last two years the Warrington Road school has been delivering an inter-generational project, HOPE designed by the pupils to provide IT classes for senior residents from the local community.
The programme has since grown to see ten teenage students working alongside 13 older people on a regular basis. The teenagers share their knowledge and IT experience and assist the learners with everything from emailing to social networking.
In recognition of this the school was awarded £2,500 on by BT officials on Monday January 30.
Lesley Stout, from St Andrew’s CE High School, said: “It is their enthusiasm for helping others as well as the support of school staff that has enabled us to win this fantastic award and for this we are immensely proud.”
