PUPILS got into the carnival spirit to raise much needed funds to save their school swimming pool.

Midfield Primary School in Grovelands Road, St Paul’s Cray, has so far raised £1,500 as part of its campaign to get £10,000 for urgent repairs to its outdoor pool.

Last week youngsters and staff came to school in fancy dress ranging from pirates and Greek goddesses to Mardi Gras and pieces of fruit.

They paraded around the school playground to the tune of a steel band from Kemnal Technology College in Sidcup.

School office manager Vicky Sutherland said: “It was a magical day.

“This campaign has really built up the community spirit.”
