A Dartford state school is beating some of Britain’s top private schools when it comes to receiving offers from the two leading universities.

Cambridge and Oxford have recently offered nine pupils from Dartford Grammar School for Boys (DGS) placements – depending on their exam results in the summer.

The school in West Hill is surpassing some of the best and most expensive private schools in the country.

According to an article in The Sunday Times, Scotland’s Gordonstoun received one Oxbridge offer, Bedales in Hampshire three, Sherborne in Dorset five and Haileybury in Hertford four.

Some of these high-paying boarding schools cost as much as £30,000-a-year to attend.

A DGS spokesman said: “The dedicated work of nine students has been recognised with an offer from Cambridge or Oxford.

“These schools are all high-achieving fee-paying independent or public schools against which a state grammar like DGS would not normally compare itself.

“We are rightly proud of these students and wish those in Year 13 the very best of good fortune in their upcoming exams.”
