A Catford primary school is celebrating a glowing Ofsted report where it was judged to be outstanding in all areas.

Rathfern Primary School, in Rathfern Road, was given the highest ranking by the government body.

Ofsted rated the school outstanding in all five categories it was measured against; effectiveness of leadership and management, quality of teaching, learning and assessment, personal development, behaviour and welfare, outcomes for pupils and early years provision.

The school, which has 513 pupils aged three to 11, was previously rated as good, one below the top mark.

MORE TOP STORIES The report published on Monday (January 11), noted: “Teachers and support staff demonstrate excellent subject knowledge across the rich curriculum.

“They also understand how children learn and use this to ensure that all pupils have an equal chance to succeed.

“The outstanding provision for their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development makes an excellent contribution to pupils’ personal development.

"It prepares them exceptionally well for their future lives as British citizens.”

The students’ behaviour was also highly praised throughout the report.

Parents, governors, leaders and teachers all worked well together to get the best outcome for the children, inspectors said.

In order to further improve Ofsted recommended the school ensures more of the most-able pupils achieve their full potential by ‘enriching the curriculum’.

Headteacher Naheeda Maharasingam, said: “I have been the headteacher at Rathfern for eight years and have been part of a tremendous journey of school improvement from Requires Improvement to Outstanding.

“We are so proud of our pupils, parent community and amazing staff team.”
