For the third consecutive year, Gumley House School FCJ students spent two weeks collecting donations for the Cardinal Hume Centre in Westminster, a charity enabling people to gain life skills in order to overcome poverty and homelessness.

Students from across all the year groups, donated food, essential items and gifts and the school  leadership team, lead by sixth form liturgy representatives, organised packing the goods into individual gift boxes.

Ewa Kolczynska, Headteacher said:  "I am very grateful to all of our students, parents and our staff for their continued wholehearted commitment in supporting this event.  It is a particularly poignant time to think of and give to others and all of us involved recognise and value the work of the Cardinal Hume centre.”

Now in its twenty-ninth year, the Cardinal Hume  Centre rely on the generosity of organizations and schools in order to be able to provide the practical advice and support to the people who come to them for help.

Stephen Currid, Community Fundraising Officer at Cardinal Hume, was astounded when the school bus arrived packed from top to bottom with parcels.

He said:  I read a tweet in the morning saying they were packing the bus but had no idea of the volume of packages donated by the school.  We have laid all the parcels out in one of the rooms and it will now go to a cross section of people including the homeless in the 16 to 24 age group.”

Everyone who visits the Cardinal Hume Centre is treated as an individual and asked what they want to achieve.  The majority of their work is done on a one to one basis and it is the support of schools like Gumley that enable this charity to continue to help those people who most need their support.
