A scathing report has been published on a Lewisham college just four months after its last poor inspection.

Lewisham and Southwark College was deemed 'Inadequate' in it's overall effectiveness by Ofsted, the worst rating possible, and the inspecting body clearly don't feel that enough has been done to turn things around since News Shopper reported on its findings last year.

The report states: "Governors, senior leaders and college staff have not made enough progress in improving key weaknesses identified at the previous inspection.

"Too few learners experience good teaching. Attendance and punctuality is poor."

A fifth of learners at the college are aged 16-18, however the report notes that the proportion of this age range who successfully complete their courses is "well below the national rate."

The report also touched on how the college's money problems may be affecting the experience of students.

"The college's precarious financial position has led to limited resources."

The report did though acknowledge that the college was strong in some areas with 'good pastoral support and safeguarding for learners.'

Meanwhile the college's provision of performing arts and hospitality and catering courses was deemed to be 'good'.

New Principal and Chief Executive Officer, Carole Kitching, said: "Clearly the outcome is a dissapointment to everyone but the report makes references to recent improvements.

"Over the next few months I will be working to drive forward the pace of change and to ensure the hard work of everyone bears fruit for all our students."
