Two primary schools in Abbey Wood have been expanded in a multi-million pound programme.

St Thomas-a-Becket RC primary in Eynsham Drive has grown from one form of entry to two, as part of a £3.49m refurbishment. The project involved redeveloping the old City Learning Centre and putting up two new buildings.

There are also plans for a further refurbishment at the school’s Mottisfont Road site, due to be finished by September.

Meanwhile, De Lucy primary school in Cookhill Road has eight new classrooms. The school grounds have also been extended, with extra outdoor areas for reception pupils and green space that will provide a "forest school" area.

Headteacher Kerry Lodge said: "The expansion of the outside area has ensured that the 90 reception children have an outside learning environment which can provide a range of opportunities including a staged area and a mud pie kitchen."
