Two primary schools and a secondary school could team up to form a multi-academy trust.

East Sheen and Barnes Primary schools and Richmond Park Academy are currently in talks with Richmond Council about coming together under a common governance and leadership structure.

The proposals could mean closer cooperation on school improvement and the transition between primary and secondary.

Councillor Paul Hodgins, cabinet member for children's services and schools, said: "We have got a situation in the area where we have some outstanding primary schools and an improving secondary school but we need to keep that going so we have outstanding from top to bottom.

"We have brought them together to look at the possibility of coming together under a form of governance structure which means a more formal way to tackle those issues together."

The proposals would also give a more local focuses and greater accountability, Coun Hodgins added.

Ideas and views on the proposals from the individual schools will be shared and the ideas will be developed in more detail in the coming months.

Coun Hodgins said: "We are seeing much closer ties in other parts of the borough like with Waldegrave School and Nelson Primary School and it is an exciting model."

Parents will have a say on the proposals through consultation and all three schools will send out letters to interested parties.
