The home of London’s Nappy Valley has something to celebrate after nearly all of Wandsworth’s schools were classed as good or outstanding.

The borough can pride itself on being near the top of the class, after being judged the second best for primary schools in London.

According to watchdog Ofsted’s annual report, 96 per cent of Wandsworth’s primary schools were classed as good or outstanding.

The borough came joint eighth, along with Harrow and Tower Hamlets, for its secondary schools, with 94 per cent being judged good or outstanding.

The statistics showed both primary and secondary school education had improved in the borough.

Last year, Wandsworth’s primary schools achieved some of the best combined Key Stage 2 reading, writing and maths results in England.

Although one school, High View Primary School in Battersea, is currently under investigation by the Department for Education following allegations of maladministration during last year’s SATs exams.

Investigation: All of last year’s SATs results for year 6 pupils at High View Primary School, in Battersea, have been declared invalid

The council’s education spokesman, Councillor Kathy Tracey, said: "Schools in Wandsworth continue to outperform schools in the rest of the country, including London.

"This is testament to the inspired leadership of the borough’s headteachers and school governors and the determined efforts of teachers and teaching assistants.

"In order to be judged either good or outstanding a school really has to pull out all the stops. The quality of teaching has to be excellent, pupils must achieve great results, standards of behaviour must be exemplary and behind the scenes the school must be properly and efficiently managed and enjoy strong leadership from the headteacher, senior staff and governors."
