Orpington pupils celebrated the power of the written word with the opening of a new library.
Headteacher Tim Smith opened the new facility at the Hillside Primary School, in Dyke Drive, on Wednesday January 14.
Youngsters can enjoy 2,500 brand new books with a den, a bean bag area and 'turret' for them to climb and sit in.
A team of dedicated Year Six junior librarians and parent volunteers will run the new facility Not just confined to books, a photo gallery and pirate dress up box also new features.
Year Six junior librarian, Freddie Philp, 10, said, “I love being a librarian and using the scanner - as well as helping all the kids get the books they’ll enjoy!”
Costing £16,000 to build - with £9,5000 spent on books - the project started in June last year.
Mr Smith said, "I am delighted that we have been able to create such a wonderful library!
"Reading is the most important skill that we can teach our children and developing a love of reading will enrichen their lives and open up new worlds to explore."
The foyer of the school was transformed into the new library.
