St. James’ RC Primary School Academy Trust in Petts Wood has been awarded the British Council’s International School Award in recognition of its outstanding work, bringing the world into the classroom. Congratulations to all of the pupils and staff for their hard work and commitment.

The International School Award is a badge of honour for schools that do outstanding work in international education. through links with partner schools overseas. Fostering an international dimension in the curriculum is at the heart of the British Council’s work with schools, so that young people gain the cultural understanding and skills they need to live and work as global citizens. The pupils of St. James' also benefited from links with other Primary Schools in Bromley making similar links.

St James’ international work includes:- Writing letters and cards to schools in the Lebanon, hosting visiting teachers from the Lebanon, holding international weeks and food tasting, writing peace poems and creating a peace garden, communication with teachers and pupils in the Lebanon by skype and creating art work inspired by Lebanese artists. The main link school is the Antonine Sisters. St. James’ has kept the children of the Lebanon in their prayers as they try to cope with the instability that is being caused once again in that region; some schools have had to close temporarily because of pockets of violence.

St. James’ will continue to develop further projects with its partners.
