A Bexleyheath primary school is celebrating after bouncing back from a disappointing Ofsted report.

The schools watchdog visited Upland Primary School last month for the first full inspection since the school was told it needed to improve in October 2012.

That report ranked the 460-strong school in Church Road in the second category from bottom in all areas, but that has now been upgraded to ‘good’, with some ‘outstanding’ features.

Inspectors praised the "highly successful leadership of the head teacher, senior leaders and subject leaders, who have brought about impressive improvements since the previous inspection."

The school scored the top grade of ‘outstanding’ in leadership and management and the behaviour and safety of its pupils.

Head teacher Vicky Sengupta said: "I am immensely proud of my team of staff here at Upland.

"I am also immensely proud of the students who come to school each day happy and ready to learn and have adapted well to many changes over the past two years.

My team and I want to drive this school onwards and upwards to ‘outstanding’ and are excited about the journey ahead."
