A world-leading university academic has returned to her former Bromley school to teach pioneering science lessons to primary-age pupils.

Professor Maggie Dallman visited Hayes Primary School to launch a new Imperial College London project designed to drive up science standards in schools.

The top university has set up the scheme to provide free web-based teaching materials from leading academics to UK schools.

Professor Dallman delivered hands on science lessons to three classes of children based on education company Tigtag's new 'Reach Out' resources.

She attended Hayes Primary School in the 1960s.

The biologist said: "I have very fond memories of growing up here and developing my passion for science from a young age.

"I always enjoyed getting stuck in with fun practical activities so it was wonderful to see the children’s faces light up as they created their own digestive system."

Jo Sharrock, Hayes Primary School teacher and science co-ordinator said: "The children love learning new things in science and so had a lot of fun with the hands-on aspect of the experiment."
