Greenwich’s primary schools have placed the borough among the best in the country in student progression thanks to this year’s national results.

The latest data confirmed that 11-year-olds’ achievement in mathematics, reading and writing exceed the national average and have improved since 2013 in every category and saw the borough come forth in the entire country and third in London for reaching or exceeding the required standard.

Greenwich also saw 92 percent of pupils achieving at least a level four or above in reading, two percent up from 2013 and two percent above the national average. There was also a 7 per cent increase in pupils achieving level 5 or higher in reading, up 55 per cent – which is 5 per cent above the national average.

Improvements in reading are particularly welcomed as this is an area that the Royal Borough and its schools have focused on improving this year.

Deputy Leader of Greenwich and Cabinet member for children’s services Councillor John Fahy, said: “The fact that Greenwich has been placed equal fourth in the country and third in London for level 4 and above in reading, writing and mathematics is something that we can be incredibly proud of.

“Our excellent results in reading are also very pleasing as we worked particularly hard throughout the year to further improve in this area.”
