John Burke, who worked at St George's College, Weybridge, as a painter for more than 40 years, died at St Peter's Hospital on Wednesday, August 20.
Mr Burke, who was employed by the college in 1972, was well known in Weybridge, Addlestone and Chertsey, where he attended St Ann's Church.
Through the years he made many friends, who he would visit on his bike and who described him as a good, kind man who had strong opinions.
His often-quoted motto was that if you had a job then "less talk meant good work".
His funeral will be at St George's College Chapel on Wednesday, September 3, at 2pm followed by a private cremation at Hanworth Crematorium.
