A Woolwich primary school is outstanding in every way, according to Ofsted inspectors.

Cardwell Primary School in Frances Street was judged outstanding for pupil achievement, behaviour, teaching and leadership.

The school, run by headteacher Carol Smith, has even improved on a similarly glowing Ofsted verdict three years ago.

Inspectors wrote: "Teaching has improved and is now outstanding. Relationships between staff and pupils are excellent, and as a result, pupils want to do well, work hard and meet teachers’ high expectations."

Greenwich Council cabinet member for children's services Councillor John Fahy said: "Cardwell and its staff and governors have done exceptionally well to be given the overall rating of ‘outstanding’, and I congratulate them."
