Michael Omer, the composer of Under a Different Sky has praised students from ACS Cobham and ACS Hillingdon for their performance of his new composition.

The concert was at the ACS Cobham whole school spring concert in early March, where ACS choirs sung alongside the Jazzbridge ensemble from Brunel University.

Mr Omer, a composer and performer who writes music for television, film, theatre and concert halls, said: “It has been a joy to work alongside students and staff at ACS who have used all their creativity and musicality to make this piece a success.”

Under a Different Sky is partly inspired by High Flight, a sonnet by John Gillespie Magee, a teenage Spitfire pilot who died in 1941.

Mr Omer said: “The piece crosses time, to contrast the past, present, and future skies above our fragile planet - reflecting in turn on a time of war, our current times, and the wonderful world of possibilities that is our future”

The composer has been working in rehearsals with students of both schools, as well as well as giving talks to pupils on composing as part of his role as artist in residence.
