A woman's body was found at a house in Station Road, Finchley, this morngin

A woman's body has been found in Finchley after police arrested a man for carrying a knife with blood on it.

The victim, believed to be in her 60s, was found in a house in Station Road by police at about 3am this morning.

The discovery followed the arrest of a 44-year-old man in the car park of Finchley Central Tube station at about 2.30am.

Police were alerted to a man acting suspiciously in the area, and on arrival officers noted he was carrying a knife which was covered in blood.

A police spokesman also said blood stains were found on the suspect's clothing.

The man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody at a north London police station.

The spokesman added: "It is being treated as a domestic incident at this stage.

"The next of kin have been informed although formal identification has yet to take place.

"A post mortem will be scheduled in due course."

Finchley Central Tube station reopened at 7.15am but the car park and the Station Road entrance remain closed as police investigations continue.
