Double stabbing: Jewish community pulls together
A community is in shock following the apparently random and unprovoked stabbings of two Orthodox Jews last week.
The two men were attacked just metres from each other in streets off Golders Green Road, in Golders Green, last Friday.
Police officers were alerted to a 47-year-old man in The Drive who had stab wounds to his arm and chest.
While at the scene, police were informed that a 43-year-old man had been stabbed in nearby Beverley Gardens.
A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said the assaults, which happened at about 6pm, were not being treated as faith hate crimes, but the callous nature of the attacks has disturbed the deeply religious area.
Deborah Behar, who lives in The Drive, said the road was packed with people trying to help the first victim.
She said: "It was quite scary and we were all frightened about what had happened. There was a feeling of worry because it could have been anyone.
"The children feel safe around here and they go to school by themselves. It's something that has never been heard of in this area."
The Hatzola ambulance, a volunteer medical service that provides care to the Orthodox community, joined London Ambulance at the scene.
Both victims were taken to hospital, one by the Hatzola crew, and are said to be in a stable condition.
Habib Olah, who also lives in The Drive, said: "You tend to be resigned to these things happening, but you always feel they would happen to others and not so close to you.
"The whole area is upset and concerned and everybody is shocked something like this could happen where they live."
Community Security Trust (CST) works with the police and residents to protect the Jewish community.
Trust spokesman Mark Gardner said he was confident the community would pull together following the attacks.
"The Jewish community in Golders Green has suffered from a number of criminal and anti-Semitic attacks in recent years and, although it appears primarily this was criminal, it is a cause for concern," he said.
"We have a three-way partnership to tackle crime and the effects of crime, which has been very successful, but unfortunately it will have to remain in place for the foreseeable future."
A 37-year-old man was arrested on Sunday in connection with the stabbings and has been charged with two counts of assault involving grievous bodily harm.
Mohamed Jama Ahmed, 37, of North Circular Road, Cricklewood, appeared at Hendon Magistrates Court on Tuesday. He was remanded in custody to appear at Wood Green Crown Court next Tuesday.

I first became aware of this story in the “London Paper” a couple of days ago. They, too, went to great pains to explain that this shocking attack on two men going about their peaceful business was, in no way, a "hate" crime. This is what they said together with my comments.

Mohamed Jama Ahmed, 37, of North Circular Road, north London, will appear at Hendon Magistrates Court charged with two counts of grievous bodily harm.

Mohamed knifes two Jewish men in two separate locations and it’s NOT a hate crime??
My opinion is that only the British National Party has the guts to sort out the scum who are responsible for these kind of attacks. A parody.

I agree, Jewish people need to be protected along side all other law abiding folk in British society, their best interests lay in supporting the BNP.

I'm sorry but there is no way that the interests of Jewish people in this country would be best served by the BNP. The BNP may be currently focussing on anti-Muslim issues but once they were rid of Muslims they would quicly turn their attention to Jews, Blacks,Asians etc.

One of our top councilors is Jewish. One of our Organisers in Dorset is Jewish. We have on our Council two Sikh and one Hindu member who advise us in a very positive way.(Believe me, these people have REALLY suffered because of Islam!)
We,as a party, have no axe to grind against the Jewish members of our British society; why should we? How many Jewish lads have strapped explosives to themselves and killed dozens of people on the London transport system?

So if the bnp "love" jews as much you make out , why was your party leader Nick Griffin openly filmed stating he believes that the holocaust is in his words never happened and no more than "thousands of jews"(he started by saying hundreds then changed it to thousands) died at the hands Hitler`s Nazi and he actually refers to it as the "holohoax" .

Only a fool would think this was not an anti- semitic attack, or are the police are trying to dumb things down.
It's a sad fact that most of the Muslim world has declared their hatred of Israel and the Jews and have vowed to destroy them!
Maybe the police are just naive or are trying to sweep it under the carpet. But attacks by muslims on Jews are becoming more and more frequent.

isn;t it funny how when a jewish person suffers a crime, the word "JEW" is over emphasized? Get over it, every citizen of this country has equal rights and interests not just the jews. What about other non-jewish people who suffer such crimes including muslims? The BNP don't give a cods wallop about anytone but white british people! Do your really think that by having a jew, sikh and hindu rep in their party is a symbol of unity? It's just a token gesture and the reality is far from inter-racial picnics and bbq's but instead they will face the same fate as their muslim counterparts!
